The Integrated Regional System for Public Health Emergency (SIRES) of the Campania Region handles more than 550,000 calls and 300,000 rescue operations each year, through an integrated system based on a regional centre and 8 operating centres in the region: Naples City, Naples West, East Naples, Avellino, Benevento, Caserta, Salerno and Vallo della Lucania.
In 2015 a project was launched operationally at regional level which, in just a few months, led to technological development of the software infrastructure at the service of emergency management. The central element of this development was the migration from the previous "118net" solution to Engineering’s new "AREAS EMS" (Emergency Medical System).
The new platform fully supports the management of emergency interventions throughout the region, coordinating and increasing the efficiency of the network of resources available in the region: rescue vehicles, health care structure, law enforcement, etc.
The main features of the new system, which will be integrated into the Single European Emergency Service Number 112, include close integration with different communication and navigation systems, accompanied by the possibility for staff to operate also using tablets. These innovations will enable more rapid and flexible communications between operations centres and emergency vehicles, to the benefit of the health and safety of citizens.
