Liberalizations, mergers, demonopolization, the need to compete with a flexible and targeted offering: over the last few years, the energy and public utilities markets has undergone deep changes and growing competitive pressures. IT technology plays a key role in this sector. At the end of 2003 Engineering bought Neta, a specialist company leading the market for 27 years. Together they form Engineering's Energy & Utilities Division, the largest IT centre in Italy dedicated to this sector, with over 180 clients. This new entity became the perfect marriage between Engineering's system integrator competences and Neta's product and process expertise. Applicator competences from billing to CRM, but also knowledge of standards and the market.

The Energy & Utilities Division reaches more than 12 million users, and around 14 million citizens and more than a third of the utilities market in terms of meters (excluding the large players such as Enel and Italgas). This means that, in Italy, around 45% of gas meters, more than half of all electricity meters and 32% of water meters use Engineering solutions
