ProtectID - Innovative processes and technologies for the protection of digital identities on line

ProtectID provides the players involved in the personal data management chain with support models and tools for facing challenges related to the privacy of digital identities.

Digital transformation is involving an increasing number of aspects of our existence; it is a constantly evolving process. A growing capacity for innovation is necessary in a context characterized by the importance of always being connected, the transition from a product-based to a service-based logic and the constant change in the competitive landscape. From this perspective, privacy and identity management are outlined as central themes.

Today, everyone has the possibility of experiencing several lives in parallel, in the real as in the virtual world. What we observe is the increase in interactions between these two worlds and the ability to access real information through web services. For this reason, management of the protection of digital identities and of personal data online has ever-increasing effects on the real sphere: side effects of violation of privacy can include crimes such as defamation, cyberstalking, economic damage, etc.

ProtectID falls within this framework and – through the use of existing models and evidence deriving from experiments carried out within the scope of the project – aims to provide a set of models and tools (toolkits). The final goal is to support the players involved in the personal data management chain, enabling them to face challenges related to the privacy of digital identities, both in the current context and in its future evolutions.

The project aims to manage threats related to a potential violation of digital identity, turning these into opportunities for generating trust in those who hold data. ProtectID ensures:

  • a high level of security in the processing of personal information (confidentiality, integrity, privacy);
  • direct control of data which permits their disclosure only to the right recipients and only in the desired circumstances (privacy-enhancing),
  • exposure of the minimum amount of information necessary for performing a transaction, thereby protecting data from potential unlawful use.

The consortium is made up of Engineering Ingegneria Informatica SpA (project coordinator), Poste Italiane, Resiltech, ICT SUD and Alkemy.
