The project was born out of Impregilo's need to use all the management and maintenance services for all the existing SAP and proprietary applications, to consolidate and rationalize its own information system at an external data center and to migrate the ERP Sap R/3 environment from the Risc Unix AIX platform to a Windows/Intel platform.
The further possibility of delegating management of the proprietary applications in VMware to the external partner was also added to these basic needs, an operation aimed at creating a flexible environment in terms of availability of service and balancing of loads.
In this light, Impregilo recognized the qualities and expertise required to propose innovative solutions in its selected partner, thanks to the operational and project experience in the ICT field and to be able to capitalize previous technological investments, using hardware and software resources already present in the company, for support for the growth of business activities.
Challenge and expertise
The desired quality standards are guaranteed thanks to management of applications, Facility Management services and System Management Control, help desk activities for level two desktops and Disaster Recovery and Security and Network management at the Vicenza Data Center.
The flexibility applied during the SLA definition phase is one of the qualifying elements of the partnerships, just like the expertise used to ensure basic outsourcing services, high levels of project planning to support the services provided and adaptation of systems according to the changing business needs, with the goal, which was achieved, of deciding a concurrent improvement of performance.
The solution and benefits
Several types of IT services have been helped. Facility Management activities aim to guarantee availability and continuity of IT systems and include the management and administration of the servers located at the Vicenza Data Center, management of the operating systems and databases used by the Impregilo application and management of the network services for applications present in the Data Center.
Services regarding the availability of application environments are instead used to ensure suitable performance and efficient use of system resources, while the level two Help Desk resources complete the range of basic assistance services for the entire Impregilo work site network operating in Italy and overseas.
Client operating system logical and physical security management is entrusted to a system arranged to identify threats and vulnerabilities and to prepare actions intended to reduce risks through recovery procedures.
The Disaster Recovery services - provided by the Assago Data Center - can guarantee recovery of critical applications and availability of the resources involved in the relative technological chains within a maximum of 36 hours. The migration project for the Citrix Metaframe operating environment, multiserver, multiuser platform for company application distribution used by Impregilo to provide services to users in different sites was also managed successfully.
