AVANT at NCA 2026
Engineering sponsors NCA 2026 and presents the results of the IPCEI-CIS AVANT project, focusing on assessing the environmental impact of IT infrastructures and identifying more sustainable and efficient scenarios.
NCA 2026 – The 24th International Symposium on Network Computing and Applications is an international conference technically sponsored by the IEEE Computer Society, dedicated to the latest developments in Network and Cloud Computing and distributed systems.
The event brings together researchers, professionals, industry representatives and academics to exchange knowledge and explore innovative technologies and approaches in areas such as Edge Computing, Artificial Intelligence, Internet of Things (IoT) and Cyber-Physical Systems.
Engineering participates as a Sponsor, with a booth dedicated to the IPCEI-CIS AVANT project on 11 and 12 November and contributes to the conference's scientific programme with a research paper focusing on the environmental sustainability of IT infrastructures.
The paper, titled "Bridging Energy, Carbon and Decision-Making in IT Infrastructures. Lessons from ImpacTracker in the AVANT Project", and authored by Enrico Martini, Functional & Business Analysis Advisor at Eng, presents the results of research activities carried out within the IPCEI-CIS AVANT project to develop a solution capable of assessing and simulating the resource consumption and environmental impacts of IT services and supporting infrastructures, including data centres.
The solution adopts a multidimensional approach, combining the analysis of energy consumption, CO₂ emissions and additional environmental and performance indicators. This enables the comparison of different infrastructure scenarios and the identification of the most efficient configurations, with the aim of reducing environmental impact and optimising operational costs.
This research contributes to AVANT's broader objectives of developing increasingly efficient and sustainable Cloud and Edge infrastructures through advanced analysis and simulation tools that support informed decision-making.
The Engineering team attending the event in Ortigia also includes Chiara Capizzi, R&I Associate Technical Manager, representing the Group's Research & Innovation division.
