Challenge
An international biopharmaceutical company operating across the entire pharmaceutical value chain, with a long-standing tradition and an innovative approach, entrusted us with evolving its backup infrastructure to strengthen resilience against cyberattacks and prevent future threats, following the need to protect critical data related to drug production and testing processes.
Approach
We conducted a thorough assessment of the backup infrastructure to identify vulnerabilities and define strategies for mitigating cyber risks. Based on this analysis, we designed an evolved architecture to ensure advanced backup security and tested recovery procedures aligned with the client’s operational resilience requirements.
We designed and implemented a zone-based backup architecture, with each zone defined by specific purposes and security requirements, including a dedicated segment for critical data. Each zone was protected using zero-trust access policies and firewall controls to monitor traffic, establishing a multi-layered security model. This approach forces any potential attacker to bypass several isolated zones before reaching the protected backup environment containing sensitive data.
Leveraging Veeam Backup & Replication, we applied system hardening measures and configured the creation of two immutable backup copies, one stored on-premise and the other in Microsoft Azure, to provide advanced protection against data compromise or loss.
