CHANGES - Spoke 9 Innovation of Cultural Heritage for Sustainable Tourism

Challenge
In the current context, there is an increasing need to develop innovative solutions for responsible tourism that integrate environmental sustainability, social inclusion and digital transformation. Within this framework, Spoke 9 of the CHANGES project fosters cross-sector synergies to develop inclusive and participatory strategies for the conservation and valorisation of tangible and intangible cultural heritage.
Approach
Spoke 9 promotes a multidisciplinary and bottom-up approach, in which design and decision-making processes arise from the direct involvement of local communities, cultural operators and territorial stakeholders within public–private partnerships. Through participatory strategies, alternative narratives, inclusive governance models, and the integration of methodological and technological innovations, Spoke 9 aims to develop solutions that integrate cultural heritage and responsible tourism, in line with international guidelines.

In this context, Engineering has designed and implemented SmartTourist AI, a platform that integrates intelligent recommendation systems, generative AI models and blockchain-based (NFT) loyalty programmes for tourists. The platform enables the creation of personalised itineraries while promoting responsible, inclusive and low environmental impact tourism models. Engineering is responsible for the overall technical architecture, software development and service integration.
