Challenge
Flexibility, scalability, modularity, and reconfigurability of production systems are now essential to adapt manufacturing processes to short product life cycles and increasing customization. Achieving these requirements cannot rely solely on specific technologies, but requires their integration with human work, which remains the most flexible resource within companies.
Approach
The ICOSAF project is based on this principle: enhancing human–factory interaction through cutting-edge technologies that ensure greater reconfigurability and cooperation between operators and machines. ICOSAF aims to create a flexible and collaborative factory capable of maintaining high productivity levels.
Solution
In particular, the project: - Develops a distributed data management model (Edge and Cloud) for monitoring process and product quality, integrating data from heterogeneous sources; - Enables digital services and their validation models; - Addresses cognitive analysis activities to support the development of advanced Human–Machine Interfaces (HMI). The project is grounded in advanced technologies and expertise, including Human–Robot Collaboration, Automated Guided Vehicles (AGVs), distributed architectures for Big Data Analytics, advanced HMIs, and User Experience. The project is co-funded by the Italian National Operational Programme “Research and Innovation” 2014–2020 and FSC (Development and Cohesion Fund), Axis II – Action 2.
