Path4Med: Innovative solutions to combat soil and water pollution in the Mediterranean

ABSTRACT
A European project for environmental sustainability and improving the quality of natural resources.

Where: italy
Challenge
The Mediterranean is one of the regions most vulnerable to the effects of pollution and climate change. The Path4Med project provides a concrete response to the environmental challenges facing the region, with a particular focus on nutrient pollution, which threatens the health of its waters and soils.
Approach
Path4Med is a project funded under the Horizon 2023 programme, aimed at developing innovative solutions to combat nutrient pollution in the water and soil resources of the Mediterranean agri-water system. As part of the European Commission's Ocean and Waters and Soil Missions, the project aims to improve the quality of natural resources, reduce nitrogen and phosphorus pollution through advanced water monitoring and management technologies, and promote more sustainable agricultural practices across the Mediterranean.
Solution

Extra Red, part of the Engineering Group, is a key partner in the project, serving as co-leader of Work Package 4 (WP4), dedicated to implementing the digital platform for nutrient management in the agri-water system.

Specifically, Extra Red focuses on tailoring solutions to the Italian context, with particular attention to the Basilicata region, using the Agro Factory as a use case for the project.

The project has received funding from the Horizon Europe programme (HORIZON-MISS-2023-OCEAN-SOIL-01) under Grant Agreement No. 101156867.
