Coopservice: Hybrid Cloud to Enhance Flexibility

ABSTRACT
Coopservice has chosen to implement a Hybrid Cloud model through Red Hat OpenShift, the open-source application platform for flexible IT, to modernize its IT landscape.

Where: Italy
Challenge
Coopservice is a service cooperative at the head of a group with more than 20,000 employees, designs and directly delivers services in energy and facility management, security and surveillance, goods handling and logistics, as well as cleaning and sanitization. The need was to revise the application delivery paradigm, transitioning from monolithic approaches to microservices architectures.
Approach
We adopted a consultating and supportive approach aimed at meeting the business needs through the most effective technology. We began with a joint assessment to gather as much information as possible, enabling us to evaluate various alternatives and determine the best technological solution to minimize downtime and updates, manage OpenShift clusters, and reduce the operational costs and maintenance of the technological platform.

Solution
Digital Ecosystem
The hybrid cloud solution implemented is based on three Red Hat OpenShift clusters: two clusters hosted on Microsoft Azure and one on-premise cluster. This solution enables the client to reduce time to market in developing complex applications, transitioning from monolithic architectures to microservices architectures, and directing the supplier ecosystem towards a unified deployment platform aimed at hosting all legacy applications compatible with the new microservices components. The implemented solution improves efficiency and reduces costs, decreases development and deployment times, rationalizes infrastructure, and reduces maintenance costs. Additionally, a Disaster Recovery plan for the on-premise cluster has been refined using ODF and GitOps workflows.
