Case Study

UniAcque: Digitalization and Control of Water Networks

UniAcque, the water service operator for the Province of Bergamo, has launched a Digital Transformation journey to digitize water networks, reduce losses, and enable continuous and widespread monitoring.

Where: Italy
Challenge
UniAcque operated across multiple platforms for plant remote control, resulting in time- and resource-intensive processes. This fragmentation made it difficult to obtain a unified view of the network, limiting the company’s ability to monitor and respond promptly in order to reduce water losses.
Approach

Engineering, in collaboration with technology partners Schneider Electric Italy and Omnicon, designed a new digital architecture based on a single platform for monitoring and optimizing network flows and infrastructures and an advanced Water Management System.

The initiative included an in-depth analysis of the existing infrastructure and the definition of a model capable of centralizing and standardizing data while simplifying processes. All major corporate information sources were integrated, creating a unified, scalable ecosystem ready to evolve over time.

Solution

The implemented solution was based on the introduction of a new unified platform, capable of replacing existing systems and providing advanced functionalities for remote control, real-time data access, and simplified configuration management.

This was complemented by a Water Management System designed to support, in an integrated way, network monitoring activities, active leakage control, pressure management, and intervention planning.

Results

Reduced operational time and manual activities

Greater system scalability and flexibility

Continuous and more accurate network monitoring

Improved decision-making support for leakage reduction
