ENFIELD: A leading initiative for trustworthy and green AI

ABSTRACT
The project for the development of an European centre of excellence for research and innovation in adaptive, green, trustworthy and human-centric AI.

Where: International
Challenge
Addressing fragmentation, technological gaps and trust issues in Artificial Intelligence is a key challenge for Europe. ENFIELD aims to build an integrated research and innovation ecosystem capable of developing sustainable, trustworthy and human-centric AI solutions, applied to strategic sectors such as energy, healthcare, manufacturing and space.
Approach
To address this challenge, ENFIELD adopts a structured collaboration model that integrates research and industry within a coordinated European ecosystem. The approach leverages multidisciplinary expertise and organizes activities around four scientific pillars (Adaptive, Green, Human-Centric and Trustworthy AI) ensuring alignment between research and industrial applications. Activities are guided by a shared framework that promotes convergence between technological innovation, the development of common methodologies, and alignment with European strategic priorities.
Digital Ecosystem
Solution
Digital Ecosystem
ENFIELD develops over 75 AI solutions, including algorithms, services, datasets and prototypes. They are based on the four pillars and applied to key sectors such as healthcare, energy, manufacturing and space, to ensure real impact, sustainability and ethics. ENFIELD also develops platforms, data assets and governance frameworks, contributing to the development of a European AI ecosystem. Engineering contributes to the design and management of the collaborative digital environment through the DIHIWARE platform, an R&I asset. In this context, the ENFIELD Portal provides project stakehlders with unified access to European knowledge on AI, bringing together research, use cases and experts to accelerate the development of trustworthy and green AI. The project has received co-funding from the European Union's Horizon Europe programme - Contract No. 101120657.
