ABSTRACT
Building European Data Spaces for a more fair and efficient agri-food sector.

Challenge
Digital agriculture offers a unique opportunity for value creation and business growth through data-driven solutions, but a fair and transparent regulation is needed to manage data sharing among stakeholders.
Approach
The EU Sustainable Development Goals support a fundamental change in data technologies and sharing mechanisms. Digital agriculture can lead farmers to have an increased efficiency and productivity, as they often do not benefit from sharing their valuable agricultural data. ENTRUST supports the European Data Strategy foreseeing Data Spaces as the key instrument to democratize the access to data and unlock its full value, in particular for the agri-food sector.
Solution

ENTRUST addresses current challenges of data governance in agriculture and farming and provides scientific results on the adoption of data technologies to allow farmers to unlock data potential, on enhanced Data Governance practices to ensure a fair and trustworthy agri-data space and, lastly, on new types of innovative business models for fair value sharing. Engineering developes a privacy preserving technology for agri-data, and is the host institution of a Doctoral Researcher. ENTRUST, in fact, also provides the foundation for a PhD training programme on agri-data governance, whose selection process observes equal opportunities and sustainability aspects.

The project has received co-funding from the European Union's HORIZON-MSCA-2021-DN-01-01 - Project No. 101073381.
