FLOW: Flexible energy systems for electric vehicle (EV) integration

Enhance the use of electric vehicle recharges and the integration of Vehicle-to-Everything (V2X) in energy systems thanks to innovative and interoperable solutions.

Where: international
Challenge
The energy and mobility systems are undergoing massive electrification with forecasted low-emission vehicles and recharging points spiking over the next few years aiming for a climate neutral EU transport and energy systems by 2050.
Approach
FLOW aims to develop and improve tools for the next generation charging solutions to enhance the performance of mobility systems and the integration with energy systems. It improves the planning and the functioning of electric vehicle charging for a perfect integration into the energy system and the identification of the most appropriate scenario, based on a multi-criteria model.
Solution
FLOW defines highly replicable user-centric products, configurations and mechanisms to optimize the electric vehicle charging systems. Tools include advanced algorithms for forecasting and system optimization within the energy management system, and an Electric Vehicle System (EVSE) platform with enhanced V2X functionality. These solutions are deployed in 5 demonstrations covering a wide range of applications. Engineering leads the integration of this tools in a decentralised bloackhain-based solution deployed and validated in the demos, using an adapted version of its own Energy Data Space Connector. It also provides the engFlex Platform for the implementaion of the local flexibility market in the Italian demo. This project has received funding from the European Union’s Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme under Grant Agreement nº 101056730
