PREVENT: Cyber Resilience for the Protection of Electric Vehicles

ABSTRACT
Ensuring a secure future for electric mobility through advanced AI-based cybersecurity solutions and the validation of technologies in real-world operational environments across Europe.

Where: International
Challenge
The growth of electric mobility is making vehicles, charging infrastructure and digital platforms increasingly interconnected, expanding exposure to cyber threats. Ensuring secure, resilient and regulation-compliant mobility requires an integrated approach that protects the entire e-mobility ecosystem.
Approach
PREVENT adopts an end-to-end, secure-by-design and lifecycle-based approach to protect the entire electric mobility ecosystem. The project integrates advanced cyber risk assessment methodologies and innovative technologies, including AI-based threat detection systems and digital twins, to identify, prevent and mitigate risks across the prevention, detection, response and recovery phases. The approach also incorporates advanced trust and security mechanisms, including post-quantum cryptography techniques.
Solution

PREVENT develops a European cybersecurity platform to protect electric vehicles, charging infrastructure and connected mobility services. The solution combines cyber risk assessment, AI and digital twin-based threat detection, and automated response and recovery capabilities. Tested across four European pilots, the platform ensures interoperability, scalability and compliance with Cyber Resilience Act requirements.

Engineering is the project's Technical Coordinator, leading cyber risk assessment activities and contributing to the development of risk assessment tools and AI-based threat detection solutions. Engineering also supports requirements and use case analysis, integration, testing and pilot validation activities.

The project is funded by the European Union's Horizon Europe Programme under Grant Agreement No. 101269392.
