Use Case

The Smart Dairy Farming

ABSTRACT
How to use precision livestock farming technologies (PLF) to control animal welfare and milk quality

Where: italy
Mission
Ensure higher productivity while paying attention to animal health and welfare, resource use and reducing environmental impact.
Solution
A sensor-based dairy cow welfare assessment that provides objective and continuous data to monitor animals in real time throughout their life and environment. The solution includes smart tools such as the Estimate Animal Welfare Decision Support System (DSS), which provides insights into animal welfare and suggests corrective actions to the breeder, and the Milk Quality Prediction and Traceability System.
Actions
  • By using IoT sensors (and wearable devices for animals) to provide continuous monitoring of livestock, farmers receive real-time information for an overall view of key animal welfare indicators.
  • With Artificial Intelligence algorithm it is possible to monitor the health status of animals, determine their level of well-being in terms of nutrition, hygiene, rest and exercise, assess their productivity and detect early signs of disease, reducing the use of medicines and costs.
  • Machine learning algorithms enable the comparison of expected indicators of milk quality with predictions based on the current well-being of the herd.
Expected results

Improve productivity and animal welfare

Comply with animal welfare standards

Optimise the daily tasks of farmers
