Challenge
Leading player in the Energy & Utilities sector, operating within a multi-country IT ecosystem characterized by heterogeneous, predominantly on-premise monitoring tools and limited end-to-end visibility. The growth of cloud-native applications required tool standardization, centralized operational governance, and a scalable platform capable of supporting thousands of hosts and services.
Approach
We defined a modernization journey structured around two main pillars:
1. the renewal of the observability platform, through the introduction of tools capable of supporting cloud-native environments, Kubernetes, and a rapidly expanding application ecosystem;
2. the evolution of ITOM, by replacing the legacy platform with a more modern and resilient solution, ensuring operational continuity and alignment with existing processes.

The solution involved the adoption of Dynatrace as the central monitoring platform for infrastructure, applications, and cloud-native environments, extending coverage to 40 Kubernetes clusters and approximately 3,000 nodes. In parallel, the entire ITOM layer was migrated from BMC TrueSight to IBM Netcool, creating a more scalable framework suited to managing high volumes of events and services.
The model was completed with SolarWinds for network monitoring across the countries involved (Italy, Spain, and Latin America). The resulting ecosystem now supports over 10,000 hosts, 380 applications (for a total of approximately 17,000 services), and 1,000 synthetic monitors, providing unified visibility and more efficient operational management within a complex multi-country environment.
