Norcia inApp: A Digital Guide to Explore the City's Places, History, and Cultural Heritage

ABSTRACT
Norcia inApp guides residents and visitors through the discovery of the city's historic centre, offering thematic itineraries and multimedia content for an engaging and accessible visitor experience.

Where: Italy

For the promotion of our territory, so rich in history and traditions, Norcia inApp undoubtedly represents a turning point. Delivering an innovative interactive map to the city allows us to contribute to enhancing what has always been here and what is still waiting to be discovered: landscapes, flavours, history, and memory are all brought together in Norcia inApp.

Maria Anna Stella Councillor for Culture and Tourism, Municipality of Norcia
Challenge
The project is based on a Special Public-Private Partnership (SPPP) between Municipia, an Engineering Group company, and the Municipality of Norcia. It was launched under Measure B2.2 of the National Complementary Programme to Italy's National Recovery and Resilience Plan (NRRP), dedicated to enhancing the historical and cultural heritage of areas affected by the 2016 earthquakes.
Approach
As part of the "Nortia – The Village of History" project, Municipia developed a digital solution designed to help users discover the city's places, history, and traditions in an intuitive and engaging way. The app is one of the first digital deliverables within a growing ecosystem that includes Virtual Reality experiences, digital signage, and the future multimedia exhibition at La Castellina Museum.

Digital Ecosystem

Norcia inApp allows users to explore the historic centre through three thematic itineraries.

  • Discovering Norcia: a comprehensive 18-stop route to explore Norcia's thousand-year history and its cultural and spiritual heritage.
  • Civil Architecture: a thematic itinerary dedicated to the palaces, buildings, and civic monuments that reflect the city's urban development and resilience throughout the centuries.
  • Places of Worship: a route through the churches of the historic centre and the Basilica of Saint Benedict.

Available in both Italian and English, the mobile application accompanies visitors from trip planning through to their on-site experience, providing in-depth information on monuments, historic buildings, and cultural routes.
