Improving the quality of life of the European elderly population by creating integrated, customizable and interoperable open platforms with advanced services.

Where: international
Challenge
In Europe’s rapidly ageing society, there is a growing need for tools that improve the quality of life, independence and overall health of older adults. Advanced ICT solutions that combine technologies from multiple disciplines can address this problem, but the market is fragmented and many solutions have limited scope.
Approach
PHArA-ON's overall objective is to make smart and active living a reality for Europe’s ageing population. It creates a set of integrated and highly customizable interoperable open platforms with advanced services, devices, and tools including IoT, artificial intelligence, robotics, cloud computing, smart wearables, big data, and intelligent analytics.

Solution
Digital Ecosystem
PHArA-ON is going to be built upon mature existing state-of-the-art open platforms and technologies/tools provided by the project partners, which will be customised and implement cloud technologies, AI techniques and traditional algorithms for big data intelligent analytics. Data privacy, cybersecurity, interoperability and openness will be key design principles and a user-centric approach will be followed. Engineering coordinates the integration, testing and release activities. It also contributes to the PHArA-ON ecosystem architectural design and component-level implementation. The project has received co-funding from the European Union's Horizon 2020 programme - Contract No. 857188
