Elona Mekshi

From HR Recruiter to HR Generalist

Insight into my year at Engineering Albania.

At Engineering Group, being part of a global team and multicultural environment means more than just exciting projects. It’s about the amazing people behind them.

One of our fastest-growing teams is Engineering Albania, launched just over a year ago and already making a big impact.

As a part of a little anniversary celebration, we sat down with Elona Mekshi - HR Recruiter turned HR Generalist - to learn about her journey, what it’s like helping shape a new team from the ground up, and how working in a multicultural environment has shaped her experience.

Hi Elona, can you tell us a bit about yourself and your experience?

I’ve been working in HR for a little over three years now. Funny enough, I didn’t actually start out in HR - I was in a role that just didn’t feel like the right fit, so I went and asked to move into HR. Luckily, they gave me the chance, and honestly, it turned out to be the best move I could’ve made. I think that says a lot about me - I’m outgoing, not afraid to speak up, and I like taking initiative when something feels off.

What made you join Engineering? Is there something in particular that attracted you to our team?

I studied Business and IT, and pretty early on I realized I was more into the business side of things - but I’ve always been drawn to the tech world. So when I heard about Engineering and saw that it was just starting operations in the Albanian market, I jumped at the opportunity. What really pulled me in was the idea of joining something new and being part of building it from the ground up. I knew it would be full of opportunities to learn and grow.

How would you describe your year at Engineering?

It’s been a really exciting year! When I started, we were just a bit over 30 people - now we’re over 215 and still growing fast. I’ve had so many great opportunities, like representing the company at events. I was super anxious at first, but now it’s actually one of my favorite parts of the job. This year has been full of learning, growth, and a lot of great moments.

What do you like the most about your team?

Honestly, my team is amazing. They’re super experienced and always open to sharing what they know. I’ve learned so much just by being around them, and having that kind of support really makes a difference. It’s a great environment to grow in.

What would be most challenging about your line of work? What would be most rewarding?

One of the trickiest parts of working in HR is dealing with different personalities and expectations - no two people are the same, and that keeps things interesting but also a bit challenging. You’re constantly balancing what’s best for the company with what’s best for the candidate.

On the rewarding side, I really love meeting new people and hearing their stories. It’s such a great feeling when someone you helped hire settles in and starts doing well. It makes you feel like you’ve made a real impact - not just on the company, but on someone’s life.

Is there something special you’d like to share with us?

I have a framed photo of my orange cat on my desk.

He’s kind of my little mascot, and he always makes people smile when they spot him!
