Industry X.0: how to improve productivity with MES
Digitizing production with a Manufacturing Execution System: how to unlock its full potential?
Optimize production and reduce waste with MES
A Manufacturing Execution System enhances efficiency and reduces waste by monitoring real-time data (materials, machinery, and operators) and controlling every phase of the production process. It allows for immediate error correction and provides insights for improvement across various production areas.
It also enables the automatic management of all material inventory, production orders, and work instructions.
Here’s a concrete example of the workflow: when a work order is sent to the production department, materials are logged into the MES, and those consumed during execution are automatically deducted from stock. This way, plant managers can see the remaining materials in real-time and always have access to the order status to track progress and ensure production is on schedule.
Improve Quality Control, Product Traceability, and Sustainability
The MES tracks all production information in real-time, receiving up-to-the-minute data from robots, machine monitors, and employees. It detects defects and non-conformities throughout the production process, defining the problem, when it occurred, why it occurred, and what it relates to. Once a defect or non-conformity is identified, supervisors can take appropriate actions (e.g., discard, rework, replace, or continue the process).
The same level of precision applies to traceability, ensured through lot management with corresponding production data.
The MES also helps minimize waste of materials, time, and resources by optimizing raw material usage and reducing scrap, thus supporting corporate sustainability efforts.
Towards MES governance: a guided journey
While MES is a key factor in digitizing processes by integrating and optimizing production—from machinery to control systems—equally important is the specialized support of experts capable of managing all implementation phases, ensuring interoperability between heterogeneous applications, integration with enterprise management systems, and enabling advanced AI-based analytics.
At Engineering, with deep knowledge of both discrete and process industries, core business processes, cutting-edge technologies, and a portfolio of market-leading solutions, we guide organizations through every step of their journey toward MES governance.
Thanks to our Industries eXcellence division, which provides specialized solutions for the development, integration, and implementation of digital transformation, we cover the entire product and process lifecycle and supply chain, with a particular focus on the digitalization and optimization of Digital Engineering, Digital Manufacturing, and the Digital Supply Chain.
