4Frailty - Smart sensors and infrastructure for the safety of vulnerable individuals

ABSTRACT
Improve the daily life quality of frail users thanks to an integrated architecture for the surrounding environment.

Where: italy
Challenge
Improving the life quality of frail users within three clinical domains (congestive heart failure, osteogenesis imperfecta, and nephropathic users with neurodegenerative risks).
Approach
4Frailty proposes an approach based on the definition of an ideal range of monitoring parameters and their combinations with the aim of keeping the patient within a "safety zone". This is possible through a telemonitoring system, which uses wearable devices integrated into the everyday life together with a Decision Support System, which helps the caregivers to early detect the risk for the patient. This, in turn, allows the definition of the safety zone and foresees low impact and low cost actions. This architecture requires the definition of an innovative IOT infrastructure for optimized management of user needs.

Solution
Digital Ecosystem

4Frailty aims to create a home care environment in order to provide the fragile user with a place of rehabilitation/care as comfortable as possible for the improvement of her/his quality of life. Such environment is an integrated architecture consisting of a telemonitoring system, a set of wearble devices, a set of devices directly integrated within the daily life environment and a Clinical Decision Support System (CDSS). Engineering is involved in the design and implementation of the CDSS system, enabling the plug in of different reasoning modules and offering smooth integration with health organizations applications relying on consolidated standards (e.g. CDS Hooks, HL7 FHIR).

The project is financed with PON Research and Innovation 2015-2020 funds.
