RAISE - Spoke 4: smart and sustainable ports

ABSTRACT
Robotics and artificial intelligence (AI) for port area activities in the Liguria Region.

Where: Italy
Challenge
The increase in smart vehicles and the widespread adoption of ICT technologies require higher levels of automation, data collection systems, and smarter processes. Within the RAISE ecosystem, Spoke 4 aims to develop smart ports enabled by AI and robotics to improve worker safety, logistical efficiency, environmental sustainability and the quality of the tourist experience.
Approach

RAISE – Spoke 4 introduces:

  • new autonomous systems capable of performing critical operations,
  • machine learning technologies and real-time data for monitoring and securing port infrastructures and resources,
  • models and methods to improve the efficiency of the logistics chain and transport network,
  • tools to reduce pollution and environmental impact, - robotics and AI-based services for small and medium-sized ports.
Solution

RAISE – Spoke 4 is developing a high-tech service platform for detecting and monitoring physical and cyber threats, as well as a set of AI-based tools for creating dynamic risk maps and advanced data analysis. Engineering is leader of the research area on AI- and ML-based detection systems for the physical and cyber security of port areas, co-leader of the research area in HPC/DCC for the acquisition, processing, and distribution of port data, and collaborates on the development of robotic systems and AI tools for security and risk assessment and management.

RAISE – Spoke 4 is part of the RAISE project, funded by the Italian Ministry of University and Research under the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (PNRR), Mission 4, Component 2, Investment 1.5.
