Engineering published its 2024 Sustainability Report
Highlights:
Engineering Group, a leader in digitalization processes for businesses and public administrations, has published its 2024 Sustainability Report. For the fourth consecutive year, the report has undergone third-party assurance by Deloitte & Touche S.p.A and has been prepared in accordance with the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI), the most widely adopted international standard.
The report covers 80 sites across 21 countries and results from a process that tracks ESG performance and progress on the 2024–2026 Strategic Plan, with the collection and verification of over 25 key performance indicators.
In 2024, Engineering made significant progress across all major ESG areas. On the environmental front, it powered 100% of its offices and data centers in Italy with electricity from renewable sources and reduced Scope 1 and 2 emissions by 27% compared to 2023. Socially, the Group strengthened its commitment to inclusion and people development, with 20% of leadership roles in Italy held by women, 400 training courses delivered, 15 Academy programs launched, and over 1,600 professional certifications issued. In governance, Engineering earned the Gold Medal from EcoVadis and improved its CDP Climate Change rating from C to B, integrating the new double materiality matrix into its reporting.
Roberto Scrivo, Chief Public Affairs, Corporate Communication & Sustainability Officer at Engineering, stated: “Sustainability is a cornerstone of our industrial vision and a key lever for guiding decisions in an ever-evolving economic and social context. For a Group like Engineering, which contributes daily to the innovation of key sectors in the country, it means promoting more equitable, inclusive, and environmentally conscious development. This awareness is reflected in our commitment to elevating technology as a driver of tangible benefits for our clients, partners, and the communities we work with.”
In 2024, Engineering introduced the double materiality matrix, anticipating compliance with CSRD regulations and further aligning strategy with sustainability, enabling more informed prioritization and investment decisions.
The Group also enhanced its support for clients’ sustainability goals through advanced digital solutions in key areas such as healthcare, energy, digital citizenship, and combating disinformation. Notable projects include the National Telemedicine Platform, developed with AGENAS and expected to reach over 790,000 patients by 2025, and the Digital Water System Platform, created within the Digital Alliance for Italy to improve water management efficiency.
At European level, Engineering leads the TITAN project, which promotes AI-based digital tools to counter fake news and foster truly informed citizenship. The Group is also a signatory of the AI Pact and the UN’s Global Digital Compact, reaffirming its commitment to ethical and inclusive innovation.
SOCIAL AND GOVERNANCE
With over 13,800 employees in 21 countries, Engineering achieved the Top Employer Italy 2025 certification, increased the share of women in leadership roles to 20% (up from 2023), and issued more than 1,600 professional certifications.
Employee well-being was also supported through the ENG-Care psychological support program. Training remained a priority, with over 400 courses delivered, 15 Academy Programs for young talent, and more than 35,800 hours of health and safety training.
The Group also strengthened its Diversity, Equity & Inclusion policies, earning the SA8000 certification for social responsibility and extending the UNI/PdR 125:2022 certification for gender equality.
ENVIRONMENTAL RESULTS: ENERGY EFFICIENCY
In 2024, the decarbonization journey yielded tangible results: a 27% reduction in Scope 1 and 2 emissions compared to 2023 and 100% of electricity in Italy sourced from renewables through Guarantees of Origin.
Significant improvements were made in data centers: in Pont Saint-Martin, a geothermal system enabled a 5% average annual reduction in electricity consumption and eliminated methane use. In Vicenza, the adoption of Free Cooling eliminated water consumption and improved energy efficiency.
SUSTAINABLE PROCUREMENT: TRANSPARENCY AND SHARED RESPONSIBILITY
Engineering strengthened its commitment to sustainable procurement by introducing ESG criteria into supply processes and involving partners/suppliers in sustainability disclosure. 48% of key suppliers have been mapped on the Open-es platform, with a goal of reaching 50% in 2025. Joining the Open-es Community, which includes over 33,000 companies from 111 countries, reaffirms the Group’s intent to foster an industrial ecosystem based on environmental, social, and economic sustainability principles.
Finally, the Group continued its commitment to circular resource management, with 80% of generated waste sent for recycling.
The improvement in the CDP Climate Change rating from C to B and the awarding of the Gold Medal by EcoVadis (top 5% globally) demonstrate the effectiveness of the actions taken.
