Research Project

OneNet: One Network for Europe

The project provides seamless integration of all the energy stakeholders across Europe for the optimization of the energy system and the creation of an open market.

Where: international
Challenge
While the electrical grid is moving from being a centralized to a highly decentralized system, grid operators have to change their operative business to manage faster reactions and flexibility. The topic has been subject of several research projects and has reached a level of maturity that allows for final considerations, and the proposal of an integrated view on grid operations at European level.
Approach
OneNet aims at performing this critical step by creating the conditions for a new generation of grid services able to fully exploit demand response, storage and distributed generation while creating fair, transparent and open conditions for the consumer.
Solution

The project aims to build a customer-centric approach to grid operation. This ambitious vision is to be achieved by proposing new markets, products and services and by creating a unique IT architecture. In this context Engineering leads the design of the OneNet Reference Architecture and has a relevant role in the implementation of the OneNet Framework.

In particular, Engineering provides its technical expertise for implementing and integrating the data integration and homogenization services based on the FIWARE Context Broker and IDS Connectors.

This project has received funding from the European Union’s Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme under grant agreement No 957739.
