Agritech: Technologies and methods to protect the uniqueness of agri-food supply chains

ABSTRACT
Innovative digital solutions to ensure traceability, quality, safety, certification of agricultural products and agrifood chains.

Where: Italy
Challenge
Understanding the origin, authenticity, and safety of supply chains enables the agri-food enterprises' alignment with the 2030 Agenda. In particular, the challenges of developing food certification and sustainability, as well as improving the efficiency of agricultural processes, can be addressed through data analysis and the use of enabling technologies.
Approach
AgriTech offers an innovative solution in the form of a platform supporting sustainable agri-food products, processes, businesses, and supply chains, with the ultimate goal of promoting the digitalization and sustainability of companies in this sector. Additionally, the platform provides tools for ensuring the authenticity, quality and traceability of agri-food supply chains, as well as for measuring the sustainability of products, processes, businesses, and new business models.
Solution

The platform integrates different technological components such as Data Space, Blockchain, Large Language Model, Decision Support System, Big Data Analytics, and tools for dataset sharing and Machine Learning models. Eng is responsible for developing the “Web of Agrifood” within the Data Space framework to provide services and access to agricultural data in accordance with FAIR (Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, Reusable) principles, ensuring data sovereignty. Moreover, Eng participates in defining frameworks and KPIs specific to the sector.

AgriTech is one of five national research centres in the supply chain, financed through the MUR by the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (PNRR) under Mission 4 'Education and Research' - Component 2 'From Research to Enterprise', Investment 1.4, organised with a Hub & Spoke governance structure as Spoke 9.
