XDT: eXtended Digital Twin for Smart Building

Enhancing building operability and efficiency by developing a virtual mirror of the physical building and using AI to measure comfort and productivity levels inside the buildings.

Challenge
The evolution of 3D models has been gaining high research attention in several fields, including architecture, engineering, and construction (AEC). The use of Digital Twins would contribute in making buildings smarter and in enhancing their sustainability. Connecting cyber-physical intelligence to the development of Smart Buildings enhances functions, comfort, and security.
Approach
XDT (eXtended Digital Twin) aims to improve not only energy efficiency but to define a holistic view of the building: sustainability of logistics, energy consumption, communications, planning, safety, security, internal mobility, liveability.
Solution
XTD is an open and highly scalable cloud based platform, which thanks to the use of sensors and the Internet of things (IoT) technologies, easily allows a bidirectional transfer of information used to mirror the virtual model with the live updates of its physical counterpart’s. The XDT developed is a vertical application of our Digital Enabler, which accelerates the setup of new smart solutions through the collection, processing, harmonisation and visualisation of data, letting the users run actions and collect feedback on the field. The XDT has been deployed in the headquarters of Focchi Group, the pilot site.
