Engineering and Cegid join forces to innovate the shopping experience in 1,200 Benetton Group stores

Benetton Group chooses Engineering and Cegid for the digital transformation of its stores, aiming to enhance store assistant operations and deliver an increasingly omnichannel and engaging shopping experience for its customers.

One year after signing the partnership, more than 1,200 Benetton Group stores have adopted Cegid’s cloud solutions in collaboration with Engineering.

Cegid is a global leader in business management software solutions for the digital and omnichannel transformation of companies operating in the specialized retail sector, particularly in fashion & luxury.
Engineering is the Digital Transformation Company, a market leader in Italy and expanding globally, supporting businesses and organizations in their continuous evolution through deep knowledge of business processes across all market segments, leveraging advanced digital technologies and proprietary or partner solutions.

The collaboration stems from Benetton Group’s need — one of the world’s most renowned fashion companies, present in key markets with a commercial network of around 4,000 stores — to digitalize its stores, empowering sales staff and ensuring a seamless, secure, and omnichannel shopping experience for its customers.

The project between Benetton, Cegid, and Engineering began in 2019 with 4 pilot stores, expanding to 29 in 2020.

To date, the Cegid Retail Y2 solution, fully cloud-based, has been implemented — thanks to Engineering — in over 1,200 stores across Italy, Germany, Cyprus, Spain, and France. It has enabled the unification of the customer experience across different stores and channels, while ensuring full compliance with the regulatory and fiscal systems of each country, from ISO 27001 certification to GDPR compliance.
Benetton Group has seen immediate benefits from centralized data management, gaining greater control, monitoring, and security over customer history, inventory, and store-specific activities. It has also benefited from simplified integration of the retail ERP with existing corporate systems.

Cegid’s solution has significantly improved the store assistants’ user experience, increasing speed and reducing errors, enhancing efficiency, minimizing low-value tasks, and amplifying their key role in the purchasing process — ultimately optimizing the consumer experience throughout the shopping journey.

As a strategic partner of Cegid, Engineering supported Benetton Group throughout all phases of the Cegid Retail Y2 implementation, guiding the definition of the model through targeted gap analyses to identify country-specific needs. During rollout activities, Engineering teams managed machine staging and installation during the initial configuration of the store’s POS systems, ensuring support on go-live day with certified trainers assisting store staff to facilitate the transition effectively.

Once a Benetton store begins using the new Y2 Cegid POS systems, it is supported by Engineering’s Retail Store Support service, which provides a single point of contact and, if needed, on-site personnel for hardware maintenance or replacement.

“Being able to rely on a modern, scalable, and reliable solution like Cegid allows us to focus on the digital transformation of our stores, making our sales teams’ work easier. For example, they’ll be able to use Cegid’s full capabilities directly from smartphones, such as real-time stock control or mobile sales,” said Marco Moschini, Information Technology Director at Benetton Group. “Having established a strategic partnership with Engineering enables us to be highly responsive in managing the needs of our global commercial network — both direct and affiliated — from new openings to service desk support, including technical training for store staff.”

“We are honored to support such a prestigious and historic brand as Benetton Group internationally, providing our innovative technological solutions that translate into a consumer-centric omnichannel experience,” said Mario Davalli, Country Manager for Southern Europe at Cegid. “We are already working to expand the partnership in the near future. Two new pilot projects are underway that will further strengthen our relationship in the areas of omnichannel and mobility, and we are confident that together we can offer users an optimized and even more efficient multichannel experience.”

“In recent years, the digitalization of the retail sector has accelerated significantly, profoundly changing business strategies,” said Maurizio Pecori, Director of the Industry, Retail & Service division at Engineering. “That’s why Engineering has included retail investment in its Group strategy to respond more effectively to client needs during this digital transition. Given its complexity and international scope, the project with such a prestigious partner as Benetton is strategic for us, as it allowed us to fully leverage our governance and technological capabilities to deliver a truly omnichannel consumer experience.”
