Enel: Virtual Quality Control

Enel inspectors around the world wear smartglasses to remotely perform inspection and testing activities.

Where: italy
Challenge
Enel Group distribution companies manage more than 73 million customers worldwide. Each year, the Components and Materials Quality Units of these companies carry out about 11,000 supervised tests of materials and components intended for distribution network operation at more than 700 plants distributed worldwide.
Approach
The components to be controlled range from high to low voltage. From “traditional” ones, such as cables, transformers, and circuit breakers, to “structural” ones, such as pylons and poles, to next-generation “electronic” components for remote control and grid automation and, last but not least, equipment and personal protective equipment.
Solution
“AR Quality Check” is our partner OverIT's solution that enables remote inspection activities using tablets and smartglasses. Leveraging the potential of Virtual Collaboration and Augmented Reality, the application enables remote supervision, leveraging different skills, as well as performing centralized checking procedures for different types of materials, allowing inspectors' work to be aligned. All through operational instructions that guide step-by-step execution of testing steps and provision of all necessary documentation.
