EcoMoB: Sustainable mobility around Mont Blanc

Sustainable mobility tools and applications for the Espace Mont Blanc area.

Approach & Solution

Approach

The innovation partnership is aimed at the realisation of an innovative sustainable mobility product in the Espace Mont Blanc (EMB) territory and stems from the will to search for green mobility solutions (goods, services or a combination of them) suitable for a mountain environment.

The initiative has a cross-border nature and involves France, Switzerland and Italy, sparsely populated in that area, but with peaks of visitors in the tourist period.

The challenge is that of a supply chain project which integrates and gives visibility to local enterprises dealing with mobility and/or other services, and offers to citizens and tourists ecofriendly solutions characterised by specific adaptability to the mountain territory.

Solution

The project realizes an integrated technological solution to meet the sustainable mobility needs of tourists and citizens and to give visibility to sustainable mobility services/operators. It also enhances sites of cultural interest through virtual tours and supports decision-makers in monitoring the solution and planning decisions.

It encompasses a green car sharing solution, offered by Alpine Green Experience srl parter in the project, able to combine stay in accommodation facilities with the use of electric cars to move around the EMB.

Engineering is responsible for the definition, development and validation of the technological solution consisting of a backoffice, a mobile app and dashboards as well as the creation of virtual tours for some sites.

The PPI innovation partnership is implemented within the framework of an Interreg France-Italy cross-border cooperation project Alcotra "Percorsi Itineranti intorno al Monte Bianco". It is led by the Unité des Communes valdôtaines Grand-Combin (project leader) supported by several partners from the three territorial sides involved (Italy, France, Switzerland).

EcoMoB: focus on the platform

The platform, built to discover the Espace Mont Blanc territory, is designed according to a micro-services approach in order to make it easily scalable and integrable and mainly consists of three logical-functional modules:

  • the Management Panel (Backoffice) responsive web application for service providers (tour operators, mobility service operators, tourist and cultural service providers) that allows, on the one hand the insertion of multimodal and cross-border itineraries, on the other hand the insertion of places of cultural interest and tourist services, offering the possibility to promote, by means of the mobile app, specific categories of services and goods present in the territory

  • the multilingual Mobile App for tourists and residents, which is available on Android and iOs, suggests green routes based on one's preferences and travel habits to discover places and services in the territory and supports users in travel planning, integrating data from environmentally sustainable mobility services available in the area of reference.

  • the Control Panel (Dashboard), a responsive web application for decision-makers that, through different types of graphs, allows to monitor the use of the app and the electric vehicles provided by Alpine, to analyze tourist flows and user clusters in order to make appropriate strategic planning decisions related to the tourism/cultural offer and mobility services of the territory.
