Digital Transformation in schools: revolutionizing learning experience and communication between teachers and parents.

Approach

New educational solutions are needed to stimulate Digital Natives' curiosity.
Inf@nzia DIGI.Tales project, financed by MIUR, was born to improve children's learning experience (aged from 3 to 6) through educational activities that leverage Digital Media solutions, thanks to the:
  • Creation of new digital environments for learning, for free expression and multisensorial experiences, enabled by user-friendly interfaces and IoT solutions.
  • Involvement of school, teachers and parents in children's learning activities, enabling a continuous sharing through a Digital Platform.

We have used Design Thinking to design our solution and we have adopted the Montessori's teaching method to exploit the principles of "spontaneous exploration" and involvement of the five senses.

Solution

The project developed a Learning Experience Platform: a ready to use and open source solution that supports learning processes and knowledge management.
The platform represents a SPOCK (Single Point of Contact & Knowledge) for all users, and is composed by the following functionalities:
  • It integrates authoring tools to provide accessible informational and training contents.
  • It validates the competences of parents and teachers by releasing badges (Open Badge compliant).
  • It adopts big data solutions to trace online users' activity, and machine learning to predict school dropout.
