Approach

Digital Transformation is a key priority for the EU in its efforts to support the rise of competitivity of the European industry. Manufacturing, agriculture, energy and healthcare represent key fields for the deployment of the EU strategy for digitalisation.

The OPEN DEI project aims to detect gaps, encourage synergies, support regional and national cooperation, and enhance communication among the innovation actions implementing the EU Digital Transformation strategy.

The project mainly supports the Digital Transformation of manufacturing, energy, agri-food and health & care sectors via the adoption of Digital Platforms and of common reference architectures, through the take-up of common methods and tools to manage and govern Data Spaces and by developing large-scale piloting experiments.

Solution

OPEN DEI strives to implement four action lines:

  • Platform building: comparing reference architectures and open source reference implementations, enabling a unified industrial data platform
  • Data ecosystem building: enabling an innovation and collaboration platform, forging a European network of Digital Innovation Hubs (DIHs), contributing to the creation of an industrial skills catalogue and observator
  • Large scale piloting: Contributing to a digital maturity model, creating a set of assessment methods and a migration journey benchmarking tool
  • Standardisation: conducting cross-domain surveys, performing promotion and implementation, building alliances with existing EU and standard developing organisations.

This project has received funding from the European Horizon 2020 Programme for research, technological development and demonstration under grant agreement n° 857065.
