COMPACT: protecting Local PAs from cybersecurity threats

The issue of reliability and security of new applications in use by Local Public Administrations (LPAs) is at the heart of the European e-Government Action Plan. LPAs have become an attractive target for cybercriminals and risk exposing citizens' personal data to various threats.

Therefore, it is important for LPAs to learn how to deal with the most common mistakes in cyber security while taking advantage of the opportunities offered by the Internet to improve their efficiency and provide better services to citizens.

However, budget constraints of LPAs often preclude them from retaining staff dedicated to the security of information and from making investments in cyber security products or services.

By delivering a new line of tools and services of superior quality at a lower cost for LPAs, COMPACT research project aimed at improving their level of protection against most relevant cyber threats through an innovative and cost-effective approach that encompasses risk assessment, game-based training, local monitoring and information sharing across the whole organization space.

Engineering coordinated the project, defined and delivered the overall platform including open interfaces and two tools developed by our R&D lab: the RATING risk tool and the collaborative platform OPENNESS.

COMPACT project has received funding from the European Union’s Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme under grant agreement No. 740712.
