Our Story

Just under four decades of history are not many for a company, but they are an eon for a company that works in Information Technology. Engineering was founded in 1980 as a software house ready to take on Olivetti’s challenge of being a completely Italian IT company at heart, but with multinational arms and legs. A journey that began when computerization was moving its first steps in Italy and that now recognizes us as a global player in Digital Transformation with 50 offices and 11,000 employees around the world.

The current Chairman Michele Cinaglia founded Engineering Ingegneria Informatica in Padua. The company was created thanks to a management buy-out operation from Cerved, the IT company of the Italian Chamber of Commerce network, now InfoCamere.

Alongside the shareholder managers, industrial and financial partners with minority shareholdings, such as IBM, Benetton, Italcementi Group and IMI, have succeeded each other. In 2000, the latter accompanies our listing on the Stock Exchange.

Thanks to the arrival of new capital from the market, the growth of the activities is funded both internally and through acquisitions.

In 2013, One Equity Partners, an American fund that manages more than 10 billion dollars in investments on behalf of JP Morgan worldwide, becomes part of our shareholding group. In 2015 JP Morgan sells its holding in Engineering to OEP Secondary Fund. Il 2016 NB Renaissance funds (born from the partnership between Neuberger Berman and Intesa Sanpaolo) and Apax VIII acquire 44.3% of Engineering's share capital. The operation involves the launch of a mandatory takeover bid by the two funds which ends with delisting. The operation maintains the continuity of the managerial structure led by founder and Chairman Michele Cinaglia, who remains a 12.2% shareholder of Engineering.
